Island Apparel was established in 2020, with what seemed to be a stream of changes along the way. In a year of social unrest, a pandemic and a toxic presidential race, I started a clothing company. I began with the simple idea of making t-shirts with fun or inspiring phrases. Over the course of the year I found myself in "this moment", where I needed to make an important decision. You see, I'm an Art Teacher who spends most of my days trying to encourage students to try, try harder, be flexible, have a positive outlook, and that it's ok to learn from failure. What kind of teacher would I be if I didn't live by my own advice. The struggle continues, but I charge on. The year is ending, but given the ideas and direction we are moving, it feels like Island Apparel is just getting started, and I'm so excited about it.
